About me

Hey. I'm
Dezrika.

I’m the founder, therapist and community facilitator behind Figuring Forward. This space brings together both sides of healing, as an individual and in community: one-to-one therapy alongside shared spaces for reflection, figuring out and accountability.

Therapy felt unique to me. A genuinely safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, understood and empowered. That experience is what I bring to every client I work with.

I’m an integrative trained psychotherapist, which means I draw from various therapeutic approaches, combining psychodynamic, person-centred and CBT techniques. I specialise in helping individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed or uncertain about their next steps. Think of me as someone on your team, helping you understand what’s going on for you and supporting you in making meaningful change.

I have experience within the NHS, student services and accessible community counselling, alongside almost a decade of work in community building, pastoral care and mental wellbeing support. I’ve worked across education, loss, social mobility and student wellbeing, developing programmes, facilitating workshops and providing advocacy. I understand the deep links between mental wellbeing and the wider social context we all live in.

Why I do this

“Life can be really, really hard sometimes. My interest in psychology started through my own need for support to make sense of what I was feeling and experiencing.”

Beyond the therapy room

Alongside therapy, I co-direct Seen Sisters, a lived experience community, facilitate groups and workshops, and work with organisations. These are separate from my therapy practice.

My approach

How I work
with you

My approach is integrative. I draw on a range of evidence-based methods to meet you where you are, tailoring how we work to what feels right for you.

Psychodynamic

Exploring how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape how you feel and behave today. Making the unseen visible so you can move forward with more clarity.

Person-centred

You are the expert on your own life. My role is to offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel genuinely heard, and to walk alongside you, not in front of you.

CBT

Practical tools for understanding the links between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and developing strategies that help you respond to life differently.

Culturally aware

I bring a deep awareness of race, identity and culture into the therapy room. You don’t need to explain yourself, and I create space for all of who you are.

Affirmative

Therapy that actively affirms your identity, background and experience. Whether you’re neurodivergent, navigating identity, or just feel a bit different, you belong here.

Community-centred

Healing doesn’t only happen one-to-one. I also create group spaces for shared reflection, connection and accountability, because sometimes we need each other too.

Anti-oppressive and decolonial

I’m always striving to be anti-oppressive in my work: acknowledging power and social identities, not making assumptions, recognising the role wider society may have, and meeting my clients where they are. I reflect on a description and definition of anti-oppressive practice by Myira Khan (2025).
